KUALA LUMPUR, 11th October 2021 – Until the pandemic struck, only patients with serious-progressive illnesses often wondered, “What will tomorrow bring?”, while most of the public could take each day for granted. Thus, THE FACE SHOP invites everyone to join us in embarking on the #JourneyofLife with Hospis Malaysia to provide solace this December, giving and spreading joy among people in need.
Since 2019, Covid-19 has been the centerfold of health concerns worldwide. Medical facilities and services were so heavily focused on the pandemic that the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the neglected. Therefore, THE FACE SHOP is partnering with Hospis Malaysia to tackle the scarcity of basic essentials shared with this neglected group. With the minimal effort of just purchasing your favorite skincare, THE FACE SHOP will be donating on our customers’ behalf: basic essentials including sanitizing kits and protective face masks to the needy alongside Hospis Malaysia. Together, THE FACE SHOP urges the public to join efforts and become a beacon of light to give hope and warm the hearts of these courageous souls.

Founded in 1991, the journey began with one nurse and two volunteer doctors for Hospis Malaysia. Today, Hospis Malaysia provides professional communitive palliative care services and facilities to those with serious progressive illnesses such as cancer, AIDS, organ failure, or progressive neurological conditions.
Palliative care has its role in the Covid narrative; the clinical team at Hospis Malaysia has worked tirelessly to make a difference with daily new referrals seeking community palliative care, mainly patients with advanced cancer and some post-Covid 19 patients. It is about managing symptoms such as breathing difficulties, helping with communication and goals of care discussions. And in some, having conversations around grief and loss.
“Every year, there are more than 100,000 patients who require palliative care in our country. This is expected to exceed 200,000 by 2030. Currently, however, only 10% of those in need have access to it,” said Jacqueline SURNAME, Communications Manager of Hospis Malaysia. Palliative care is defined as the care of patients and families faced with suffering from serious progressive illnesses, providing hope and not neglecting the possibility and importance of end-of-life care.
“LGHNH is on a mission to speak up for the need of palliative care awareness in our country’s health care system and call for fellow Malaysians to come together. Let’s help and support each other to alleviate the burden during the pandemic, especially for families who have to continuously battle with serious progressive illnesses, by providing basic essentials that ensure healthy self-hygiene,” said Steven Jeong, Business Director of LGHNH Malaysia
